It is not the first time Ruth Gumm (Gua Africa UK, Kenya & South Sudan Director) has been interviewed on Naath FM, Leer town's community radio station. Four years since her debut Ruth was invited to the Naath FM studio during the UK team's recent trip to Leer.
After an introduction of Emmanuel Jal's song Emma the interviewer led a question and answer session with Ruth for roughly 30 minutes. Members of the general public phoned in and chatted with Ruth about Gua Africa in general, the future of the Emma Academy project and the successes of the Survivors of War programme.
Naath FM is funded by INTERNEWS, a global organisation that supports community radio broadcasting around the world, particularly in under-developed or conflict-hit regions. Radio plays a vital role in news sharing in rural South Sudan, in the absence of mains electricity and internet access.
