Damai Dak's story - in his own words

"My name is Damai Dak, and in 2011 I graduated from Ndejje University Uganda with a BSc in Civil Engineering, thanks to support by Gua Africa. I would like to thank Gua Africa for their generosity and thoughtfulness in regards to the support of my study in University. Your support for my education has had an impact upon me far beyond the obvious and measurable financial help.

In receiving this help, I am touched not only by your generosity but also by our shared desire to give back to my beloved country and community which has been destroyed by war for several decades. I can't imagine where I would be now if it was not Gua Africa. After I finished my high school in Refugee camp I had nowhere to go. When Gua gave me a chance to proceed to University I came to believe the quote that "At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person". Gua Africa really lit a flame with in me, so I have all the reason to say thanks to Gua and express my gratitude."

Since qualifying, Damai has assisted Gua Africa with drawing up technical plans for the Emma Academy. He is now employed full time by the Ministry of Petroleum in Juba, South Sudan.
