JAL GUA ACADEMY
Our vision is to build the first ‘Emma’ Academy in honour of the British aid worker; who rescued Emmanuel from his life as a child soldier, and placed him in school for the first time. Our belief system is based on Emmanuel’s understanding that even the most traumatised person can reach their potential if given learning opportunities in a safe, creative environment where their well-being and mental health is a primary focus.
'Education offers our mind to a world of infinite possibilities, it powers our imagination, it increases our mental power and it adds values in our life.'
Emmanuel Jal
‘My Life is Art‘ are the daily principles and practices Emmanuel Jal designed to cultivate purpose & leadership and will be embedded into the curriculum of the academy. These practices will be central to our learning and how we grow as individuals and a team.
Our Academy will provide the following:
- A visionary world class education for children and young people who have been displaced through conflict.
- A centre that will be the heartbeat of the host community and provide a hub of learning and activity.
- Teachers trained onsite by leading experts and supported by our partnership teacher-training program in the UK.
- Creative wellbeing embedded in our day-to-day activities.
- Carefully monitored mental health support to ensure our young people develop positive coping strategies.
- A self-sufficient farming program, growing our own crops whilst feeding our appetite for learning
Our Values
We aim to develop all our pupils to be leaders.
- To have a life long love of learning and passion to share their knowledge.
- To have independence, empathy and a ‘give back’ attitude.
- To be outward looking, curious and a positive nature.
